Did you know that Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy (PEMF) has been used in medicine since very early times?
The Ancients knew long ago how to use magnets to address ailments, restore function, rejuvenate, etc.
The Vikings used magnetic compasses to treat the body during the Middle Ages. For example, in 2000 B.C., the Chinese used magnetic stones to restore body balance. In 200 B.C., Galen, a Greek physician, described the cleansing effect of magnetism. Even Queen Cleopatra wore a small magnet on her forehead to maintain her beauty.
The German physician Hahnemann (the discoverer of homeopathy) was convinced of the healing power of magnets.
In 1825 the English scientist William Sturgeon patented the electromagnet, and in 1831 the American scientist Joseph Henry devised a strong electromagnet using multiple layers of insulated cables.
So as you can see, we have been using electromagnetic fields for a very long time to restore function to the human body.
How does Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy (PEMF) work?
PEMF works at the cellular level, specifically at the cell membrane. The potential (energy an object has because of its position relative to other objects) between the two sides of the cell membrane changes in response to cellular injury (through trauma or illness). This upsets the equilibrium of the cell membrane. Positively charged sodium ions flow into the cell, while negatively charged trace elements, water, and proteins flow out of the cell. Therefore water accumulates in the extracellular space resulting in swelling or edema.
PEMF targets the cell membrane. PEMF helps restore cellular membrane equilibrium as it influences the membrane’s permeability by changing the number and functions of membrane receptors.
How does it work?
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy uses bursts of low-level electromagnetic radiation to heal damaged tissues and bone, relieve injury-related pain, and even stimulate organs.
Pulses at low frequencies pass through the skin and penetrate deep into muscles, bones, tendons, and even organs to activate the cell’s energy and encourage its natural repair mechanisms.
PEMF is quickly gaining attention as a non-invasive way to approach injuries, chronic pain, and even chronic conditions like depression and diabetes.
PEMF measurably reduced pain and swelling following plastic surgery
A small study demonstrated that PEMF therapy reduced pain from chronic pain conditions and fibromyalgia.
Treatment with PEMF improved osteoarthritis by keeping cartilage from breaking down.
PEMF impacted the growth of bone cells in cell cultures, which formed bone tissue in lab tests

What are the main benefits of Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy?
Pain relief (by blocking the propagation of the “pain signal”)
Alleviates inflammation
Improves circulation (through vasodilation)
Boosts the immune system
Improves oxygenation
Increases stress tolerance (by decreasing the sensitivity of stress receptors)
Promotes sleep (through an increase in melatonin production)
Raises energy levels (by shifting the balance to oxidative processes)
Speeds recovery
Increases exercise performance (via improved circulation, which warms up the muscles)
Antimicrobial effects
More than 2,000 University Clinical Studies on PEMF prove the benefits with NO observed adverse effects.
At Nutritional Wellness Center, we offer packages of 30-minute sessions of PEMF Therapy; we use the PURELIFE PL-3000 by Purelife; this product is FDA Registered.
