Detox is more than a trending buzzword! There’s a reason that saunas are one of the oldest and most proven forms of health improvement.

We live in an ever-increasingly toxic world, and our bodies are feeling the burden of stress, heavy metals, and everyday toxins. With the rates of chronic illness rising, people are thinking about how to get healthy or prevent illness and accelerated aging. Implementing a few small lifestyle changes that focus on detoxifying your body adds up to major improvements in overall wellness.

We use the Therasage Personal Sauna© in our sauna detox programs. Here is a list from Therasage of 20 reasons detoxing is important and how it will enhance your life.

1. Boosts Your Immune System

People are exposed to countless toxins on a daily basis through the foods they eat and the air they breathe. By removing and eliminating these toxins and then feeding the body with healthy nutrients, detoxification can support a strong immune system and renew our ability to maintain optimum health.

2. Reduces Inflammation

When you detox, you flush those accumulated toxins, allowing your inner organs to work according to their functions. When all those toxins start to decrease, the healing process begins, thereby reducing inflammation.

3. Clears Your Body of Heavy Metals

Heavy metal poisoning is caused by the accumulation of certain metals in the body’s soft tissue due to exposure through food, water, industrial chemicals, or other sources. Physicians often recommend removing heavy metals through detox protocols for various health reasons.

4. Stabilizes Mood

Effective detoxification will assist in stabilizing your mood and calming anxiety. Depending on your method, detoxing helps to balance blood sugar levels or calm the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in a calmer state of body and mind.

5. Eliminates Your Body of Toxins

By removing toxins and then feeding your body with healthy nutrients, detoxifying can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health.

6. Helps Combat Chronic Disease

During treatment for chronic illness, the body may begin to accumulate toxic waste that needs to be removed. Any detoxification method can assist in removing these toxic wastes, which are caused by any number of things such as bacterial die off to toxin accumulation via medications.

7. Reduces Pain

Pain can be caused by inflammation, lactic acid, or even fluid build-up around the joints. A regular detox regimen assists in reducing inflammation, eliminating lactic acid, and increasing circulation and oxygenation to assist in the evacuation of fluid build-up caused by edema, which adds unnecessary pressure to joints and nerve endings.

8. Helps You to Lose Weight

We have been programmed to believe that losing weight is as simple as counting calories, eating less, and exercising more. Of course, the types of food you eat and the number of calories you ingest affect your weight and energy levels. Detoxing removes sugars and food toxins from your system and helps fight inflammation and bloating.

9. Assists with Nutritional Upload

Toxins block the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. A regular detox protocol will clear your system of toxins and allow you to absorb the necessary nutrients for optimal health.

10. Detoxifies the Liver and Kidneys

Your liver and kidneys have a big job to do because they are key players in processing and detoxifying your body of all the toxins you eat, breathe, and accumulate every single day. In order to function at optimal levels, these organs should be cleansed and cleared for maximum detoxification functionality.

11. Slows Aging

A good healthy detoxification is known to slow the aging process by lowering the rate of cellular decay.

12. Reduces Body Odor

Heavy metals, mold, and even bacteria that have died and not been properly flushed from your system all cause a change in the way your body smells. Ridding your body of toxins results in an overall reduction in body odor.

13. Enhances Performance

Detoxing can lead to increased stamina, improving all areas of performance in your life: work, workout, and sex. When you detox, you eliminate toxins (including sugar)that create hormonal imbalances and wreak havoc on your metabolism, resulting in a healthier libido and sex life.

14. Improves Your Skin

Your skin is a reflection of your inner health. Diet and environmental toxins affect the appearance of your skin. When your body is healthy, free of toxins, and absorbing nutrients, you will see marked improvements to the appearance of your skin.

15. Increases Energy

Most people are plagued with some level of fatigue at certain points in their lives. Whether you are feeling a general sluggishness or suffering from chronic fatigue as a result of illness, removing excess toxins can assist in increasing energy levels.

16. Improves Your Sleep

During the beginning stages of detoxing, people will often experience increased sleep problems as the body rids itself of toxins and clears its inner pathways. Those who work past that initial healing crisis experience deeper, more restful sleep, which, in turn, promotes overall wellness.

17. Sharpens Your Thinking

Toxins and free radicals that accumulate in the body can also affect brain function. By removing the accumulations interfering with your mental and emotional state, you will open yourself up to better sleep, clear thought, and positive energy.

18. Helps Eliminate the Effects of Drugs and Alcohol

When your liver’s function is improved, and your metabolism is boosted, your body will eliminate drugs and alcohol more efficiently.

19. Keeps Your Body in Optimal Condition

When you detox, you feel better! You wake up feeling vital, vibrant, alive, joyful, and energetic. A simple detox program will help you eliminate the general symptoms of toxicity like fatigue, brain fog, achiness, digestive issues, allergies, and headaches.

20. Restores Your Body’s Balance

The best way to reset your life is with a detox. Self-care — like meditation, a little exercise, adequate sleep, and healthy food — works to reboot your body and mind.

21. Lose Body Fat

Can full-spectrum infrared sauna use actually help me lose weight?

Absolutely!! It helps you lose weight because it simulates exercise. Take, for example, a person who has a sedentary lifestyle due to a cardiac condition, osteoarthritis, respiratory problems, or another chronic illness. Full spectrum infrared rays heat deeper layers of the body at lower temperatures than the warm air associated with traditional saunas, thus provoking a more efficient sweat response. A full-spectrum infrared sauna will deliver the cardiovascular requirements the body needs to maintain its internal core temperature (a process known as homeostasis), and is akin to a moderately-paced walk or light jog. Ultimately, if your activity levels are hindered by illness, injury, or something else, full-spectrum infrared sauna technology could hold the key to helping you lose weight and build cardiovascular health.

According to Dr. Steven Bock, Infrared sauna use assists in removing toxins from our bodies which in turn creates greater ease to mobilize and remove fat cells. This creates a positive cascade effect making it easier to lose weight overall and increase your metabolism.

If I lose weight when using an infrared sauna, is it mostly water weight?

You’re going to lose water weight while sweating during an infrared sauna session but that’s not all. By increasing your heart rate and metabolism, you’ll burn calories.

A 2017 study in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology discovered that infrared sauna users maintained an elevated heart rate for about 30 minutes after one sauna session. Furthermore, a study conducted at Binghamton University in New York discovered that participants who spent an average of 45 minutes in an infrared sauna three times a week reduced their body fat by up to 4% over four months. For the best possible results, consistency was key. The participants who used the sauna regularly were more likely to see a drop in body fat.

Can an infrared sauna serve as a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise?

Remember, Incorporating full-spectrum infrared sauna sessions into your weight loss program isn’t a substitute for a healthy diet.

As already mentioned, an infrared sauna session can mimic the positive effects of exercise, like burning calories, improved circulation, and a rush of pain and stress-busting endorphins. According to Dr. Oz, on a segment with Oprah, he explained that an infrared sauna can increase your metabolism to the point where you will burn hundreds of calories without making any physical effort, estimated to be as high as 600 calories in a thirty-minute session from your increased heart rate. (Of course, individual results will vary from person to person.)

Now is the perfect time for a “fresh start” detox!
